EIT is enriching its unique delivery model for students by enabling access to Moodle through mobile devices.

The use of mobile devices is gradually becoming a compelling learning tool used to enhance teaching and learning in distance education. Its usage ensures flexible course delivery, makes it possible for learners to access online learning platforms, access course resources, and interact digitally.

Open-source Learning Management Systems (LMS) are the lifeblood of modern education delivery, and at EIT, Moodle has been trusted for over a decade.

According to EIT Technology Manager, James Mackay, Moodle’s core values have always aligned with EIT by focusing on education, respect, openness, integrity, and innovation.

What is invaluable at EIT is the fact that Moodle is open-source, it’s trusted globally and it has terrific community input.

“Moodle is the central point for all student activities. All of our platforms are integrated into the system. Our webinar platform, BlackBoard Collaborate, as well as our Remote Laboratories and Turnitin,” says Mackay.

Because of EIT’s rich history for online delivery, the Moodle App is cater made for students.

“Moodle is open source and EIT has very specific requirements for our range of courses we run. EIT has been able to tailor the experience to our specific needs,” explains Mackay.

By connecting through mobile devices, students have more on-the-go access to their education with EIT.

One of Moodle’s core pillars is accessibility. For Moodle accessibility means more than one medium of access. Because people have different devices learning platforms must be available on different operating systems.

That’s why Moodle is so effortless to access from desktop computers, laptops, smartphones, and tablet computers.

The Moodle App is a powerful learning tool that allows EIT students to access offline learning materials, complete submissions, and connect with EIT – making it an effective LMS.

At the end of the day, new access points are only relevant if they are impactful, and Moodle is aimed to ensure the end-user gets all the benefits.

“For students, it is compatible with all platforms. EIT focuses on ensuring that the experience is seamless and does not require much bandwidth,” concludes Mackay.

Why use Moodle on your mobile device?

If you’re an EIT student you’re already familiar with the Moodle LMS. But when you download the Moodle App on your mobile device you now have an added access point to your courses. The app is free, available to be used offline, and can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store.

The app gives students continuous access to EIT content and keeps their education only a phone unlocking away. Content can come in handy during long commutes when going to areas with limited network coverage. It also eliminates the need to always carry a laptop around.

As the capabilities of technology continue to evolve, mobile device access can increase the value of existing learning styles. By improving accessibility, opportunity and sharing capabilities, the trend of mobile learning is only going to grow. We are proud to be constantly evolving our delivery model and encourage students to embrace this new feature of the EIT learning experience.
