At EIT, we commit to providing all our on-campus students, from July 2021 intake*, 240 hours of work integrated learning at no extra cost**. This equates to a 6-week full-time internship or equivalent in part-time hours.
Your internship may be physical, virtual or a hybrid placement (a combination of an in-company placement and virtual placement). It will provide an outstanding opportunity to gain Australian experience in a professional organization relevant to your field of engineering and will improve your employability post completion of your degree.
The duration of your degree is not affected, which means that you can still complete your bachelor’s degree in three years and your master’s degree in two years.
“Throughout the internship, every day I learned new things. The best skills that have been obtained through the experience; communication, how to research and validate information, project management tools, etc. Among all of the activities, the challenging part is to collect the real-time data on the particular requirement of the project.”
Mosam Patel, Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering)
Applying for work-integrated learning can be very daunting for students, particularly those without any industry experience. We, therefore, assist our on-campus students with resume development, interview techniques, presentation skills, and making contact with our industry partners.
In undertaking internships, students will interact with employees and become exposed to organizational policy and culture. You will familiarize yourself with organizational communication procedures, a variety of engineering disciplines, and obtain insight and practical aptitude in projects from the planning phase to completion.
If you already have some work experience in the relevant engineering field, you may apply to have credit granted by completing the associated recognition of prior learning form.
*If you are a current student with EIT and started your intake in February 2021 or prior, please contact Student Services (student.services@eit.edu.au) to find out about your options for completing this WIL component of your studies.
**Internships are conducted post the successful completion of the first year of your program. You must have passed (grade of 50% or more) all first-year units and have good financial standing. It is a prerequisite of graduation that EIT’s on-campus bachelor’s and master’s students complete 240 hours of work integrated learning.
